The dream come true mind-blowing moment”, of our ‘Dare to Dream, Reach for the Sky’ programme was realized when our Shree Niketan Groups of schools had the privilege of inviting the most coveted, 11th president of India, Bharat Ratna awardee, Dr. A.P.J. Born on the 15th of October 1931, at Dhanushkodi, Rameswaram, Dr. Kalam pursued his schooling in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He studied physics at the St. Joseph’s College, Thiruchirapalli and aerospace engineering at the Madras institute of Technology, Chennai. He made India an exclusive member of Space Club when SLV-III ejected the Rohini satellite in the near earth orbit in July 1980. He led the development of indigenous guided missiles Agni and Prithvi. He also played a crucial role in coordinating Pokhran-II nuclear tests, which continued India’s status as a member of the elite club of countries which posses proven nuclear techonology. His foresight to put technology to multiple uses is exemplified when he used the light weight carbon composite material designed for Agni missile to make callipers for the polio affected.
He has been hailed as India’s first People’s President as he bridged the gap between the common people and the high office. His proactive policies during his tenure brought substantial changes in the life of the common man.
Post his presidency, he aimed at interacting with one lakh students across the country to kindle their spirit and help them follow their dreams. Apart from these interactions his role as a teacher and a professor is highly heralded as he served as a visting and adjunct faculty member at many well known and much acclaimed research institutions all over India. Owing to his contributions to the student fraternity, the UN has declared his birthday, Ocotober 15th, as World Students’ Day.
But beyond all these great contributions, it is his love for India and for his countrymen, especially the children and youth and his single minded devotion to make India, a truly prosperous, self-reliant and a developed nation that has endeared him in the hearts of millions of Indians, like no public figure has done, in the history of modern India.
The programme was a grand success with our noble guest, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalamji sharing pearls of his seasoned wisdom through thoughts that enlightened our students upon the importance of Creativity, the Need for having a big Future Ambition and a formula for Crystallizing Knowledge.
